Since 1993, VHDA has hosted a charity golf tournament to support emergency housing serving homeless men, women and children. As a result of your generous support, the golf tournament has made more than $1.6 million available to many emergency shelters and Habitat for Humanity projects across the state. We hope you’ll support this year's selected emergency shelters and Habitat for Humanity project by participating in the 2014 Annual VHDA Charity Invitational Golf Tournament on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Ford's Colony in Williamsburg, Va.
Over the last several years, the widening gap between housing costs and income has changed the face of those served by Virginia’s emergency housing shelters. At a time when the demand for emergency services is significantly increasing, many shelters are experiencing difficulties in raising funds to support their facilities. The number of working families that find themselves homeless continues to increase as the cost and availability of affordable rental housing becomes more of a challenge. These emergency shelters are their only hope for a meal or a place to stay that is safe and warm.
